Tourism in the\u00a0Peloponnese\u00a0is gaining momentum, which is driven by the area\u2019s\u00a0upgraded infrastructure<\/strong>, the development of\u00a0thematic travel products<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0promotional activities<\/strong>\u00a0run by regional authorities.<\/p>\n

More specifically, the area was recently included among the\u00a050 best places to travel in 2018<\/strong>\u00a0by the\u00a0Travel+Leisure Magazine, along with Buenos Aires in Argentina, Marrakesh in Morocco and the Fiji Islands.\u00a0The magazine referred to the region\u2019s improved highway system towards\u00a0the\u00a0Kalamata Airport, as well as to the upgrading works at the ports of\u00a0Gythio\u00a0and\u00a0Katakolo.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy promoting the region\u2019s excellent tourism product in 2017, we aimed at making the Peloponnese\u00a0a year-round destination<\/strong>,\u201d the region\u2019s deputy governor\u00a0Konstantina Nikolakou<\/strong>\u00a0said in an announcement.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have achieved that through the collaboration with our strategic partners \u2013 Greek carrier\u00a0AEGEAN\u00a0and TEMES, the developer of\u00a0Costa Navarino\u00a0in\u00a0Messinia; leading tour operators; and through inter-regional collaborations with partners in Greece and abroad,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

According to Nikolakou, as a result, the Kalamata Airport is now\u00a0connected to new destinations<\/strong>, namely Brussels, Copenhagen and Vienna, with weekly flights.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, in March 2018, Costa Navarino will host the\u00a0World Tourism Forum Lucerne Think Tank,\u00a0<\/strong>an international event taking place annualy.<\/p>\n

The Region of the Peloponnese has also focused on the development of thematic tourism and travel activities such as hiking.
